Connie Dyer grew up in San Antonio, Texas. She received her B.A. in Geology from The University of Texas at Austin in 1958 and relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she worked as an assistant to independent geologist Wallace E. Graham.

She married Byron Dyer (Lamar University, BS Geology) in 1959 and they are the parents of Jeff (TTU ‘85), Kelly Gabrisch (UT ‘84), and John (SMU ‘05). They are the fortunate and privileged grandparents of five girls and two boys. Expanding college loyalties even more, one of the girls is a ’12 graduate of TCU and another is a senior there this year!

Since 1968, Connie and Byron have resided in Houston, where she has served in a leadership capacity for numerous community organizations. She is currently a Trustee of Houston Grand Opera, a past Director of Literacy Advance of Houston, and a past President of Assistance League of Houston. She is also a member of the Emeritus Board of Memorial Assistance Ministries. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Houston Methodist Hospital System for 26 years and is a member of the Compensation and Benefits, Finance, Spiritual Care and Values, and Community Benefits (Chair) Committees. She also serves as Vice-Chair of the Methodist Health Centers Board, and as Co- Chair for the Methodist Debakey Heart and Vascular Center Advisory Council. At The University of Texas at Austin, Connie is a member of the Chancellor’s Council and Littlefield Society, as well as the Jackson School of Geological Sciences Advisory Council.

Connie and Byron enjoy a second home in the community of Las Campanas, just outside Santa Fe, New Mexico, as a welcome respite from the hot and humid summers of Houston. Anyone heading that way…….the welcome mat is always out!
