Gabriel (Gabby) Silberman has rejoined Cerebri AI as its Chief Scientist after his five-year tenure as Director General of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and Adjunct Professor at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). Created in 2016 in Barcelona, Spain, BIST is a leading institution of multidisciplinary research encompassing seven Catalan research centers of excellence. By fostering collaboration among members of its diverse scientific community, BIST plays a leading role in pushing the frontiers of science while becoming a global reference for training outstanding research talent.

Dr. Silberman completed his PhD in Computer Science at the State University of New York at Buffalo and has since held positions as tenured faculty at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, Group Leader at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Program Director at the IMB Toronto Lab, and as Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Gabby also acted as Senior Vice-President and Director of CA Labs, Chief Scientist for Owl Computing Technologies, Executive Director of Research at Dell, Chief Scientist at Cerebri AI and Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M University, prior to his move in 2017 to Barcelona to head BIST.

Preceding his shift to industry, Gabby held a tenured faculty position at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, and was visiting faculty at Carnegie Mellon University. Gabby has an extensive research background in both the private and academic sectors and is an active inventor with 47 issued US patents. He strongly supports diversity, education, and closer collaboration among research institutions, industry, and society.
