Lauren B. Marangell, MD recently founded Brain Health Consultants, a private business and medical practice based in Houston, Texas. Marangell was previously the Brown Foundation Chair of Psychopharmacology of Mood Disorders and Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine. During this time she founded the Mood Disorders Center, which grew under her leadership into one of the nations premier clinical psychiatry research programs, attracting patients from around the globe and research grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, Industry and private foundations in the area of novel treatment development. She also served as a Chair for the Institutional Review Board that reviewed clinical research for all medical specialties for Baylor College of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals, including the Methodist Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital, the Texas Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) and the Houston VA. Marangell was then recruited to Eli Lilly, where she served as a Distinguished Scholar in the area of neuroscience from 2007-2014.  This unique senior management position was designed to provide strategic guidance to compound development teams and medical affairs teams globally.

Marangell received her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine, completed her internship, residency, and chief residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, and then spent three years at the National Institute of Mental Health as a Fellow and Senior Staff Fellow specializing in mood disorders research. She has received numerous awards, including the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She lectures and publishes widely, including over 100 peer review publications and several clinical textbooks. Her books have been translated into 4 languages, including Mandarin.

She volunteers as an professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas.
