Leticia Nogueira, PhD, MPH, is the Scientific Director of Health Services at the Surveillance and Health Equity Science Department at the American Cancer Society. She currently investigates determinants of health disparities in the cancer care continuum that can be addressed by policy changes including structural racism and climate change.

Dr. Nogueira previously served as the Director of the Environmental and Injury Epidemiology and Toxicology Unit (EIET), and the Epidemiology Manager at the Texas Cancer Registry, both at the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). At EIET, Dr. Nogueira directed five distinct state programs, including the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, the Injury Program, the Health Assessment Program, the Occupational Health Program, and the Fluoridation Program.

Prior to joining DSHS, Dr. Nogueira was a Cancer Prevention Postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute, where she worked with cancer health disparities at the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG). Dr. Nogueira previously worked with the obesity-cancer link at the University of Texas at Austin.

She was awarded Woman in Cancer Research and Minority Scholar in Cancer Research from the American Association for Cancer Research, received the Fellows Award for Research Excellence from the National Institutes of Health, and was indicted into the University of Texas College of Natural Sciences’ Hall of Honors in 2018, and received the UT Outstanding Young Texas Exes award in 2020. She holds a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from UT Austin and a MPH in Quantitative Methods from Harvard.
