Dr. Catherine Sargent is originally from Texas. She received her BA in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Rice University in 1990.  After 3 years with the Office of Technology Assessment of The United States Congress, she returned to Houston, Texas and received her MD from Baylor College of Medicine in 1998 Dr. Sargent completed her residency training in orthopedic surgery at Tulane University followed by a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis under the mentorship of Dr. Ray Morrissy at the Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, GA.  She is board certified in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Sargent served as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedics and Physician Advisor for Patient Safety and Quality Improvement at Johns Hopkins University from 2005 to 2009.  She is a reviewer for Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Her research activities include the examination of burnout and quality of life among resident and faculty physicians.

She and her husband, Dr. Thomas J. Kim, relocated to Austin in the fall of 2009 to raise their son: John Paul. Dr. Sargent has joined Central Texas Pediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis Surgery and practices at the Dell Children’s Medical Center.
