Thomas (Tom) Baker

Tom Baker retired as Chairman Emeritus of Energy Future Holdings Corp., formerly TXU Corp. He was previously vice chairman of TXU Corp., and prior to that he served as chairman and CEO of ONCOR Electric Delivery, TXU’s regulated transmission and distribution business. Except for a three-year period when he served as a nuclear missile launch officer in the U.S. Air Force, he has spent his entire career in the energy industry with TXU, culminating in key high-level roles.

He began his career as a plant engineer with Dallas Power & Light in 1968 and over time, held leadership positions in generation, utility operations, finance, customer service, rates, regulatory affairs, public policy and served as Executive Vice President Engineering and Bulk Power. In 1987, he was elected to the board of directors of TU Electric and was made principal financial officer of Texas Utilities Company. He actively participated testifying before the Texas Legislature on behalf of his company and industry in support of the legislation that created the competitive electricity market that began in Texas in 2002.

Tom has served as chairman of both the Engineering Advisory Board of the Cockrell School of Engineering and the College of Natural Sciences’ Advisory Council at The University of Texas at Austin. In 2013, he was honored to receive the University of Texas at Austin’s Cockrell School of Engineering Distinguished Engineering Graduate award.  Baker was also active in community roles serving as chairman of the boards of Children’s Medical Center Dallas, the Circle Ten Council of Boy Scouts of America, The Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce and is past president of the City of Dallas’ Park and Recreation Board.

He and his wife Nancy have two children and six grandchildren. Baker enjoys photography, music and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles for a number of years. He and his wife Nancy spend time during each year in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia studying the history of the United States of America where it all started.
