Tyrrell Flawn

Tyrrell Flawn spent her career in the non-profit sector. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel at the U.S. Department of Education. Established by Executive Order, the Panel was charged with reviewing the best scientific research and making recommendations to improve mathematics education, with an emphasis on algebra preparation and algebra success. The Final Report contained 45 findings and recommendations and became the foundation for subsequent policy discussions on mathematics eduation.                                                       

Previously, as Executive Director of The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health, Ms. Flawn oversaw the doubling of the size of the Inn while continuing to provide care for 1,200 families annually whose chidlren were participaing in clinical trials at NIH. She also served as Executive Director of the RGK Foundation in Austin, Texas and as Director of Volunteer Services, including the Children’s Art Project, at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Ms. Flawn served on the University of Texas Commission of 125. She is a member of the Advisory Council of the School of Human Ecology and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin.

She is a cum laude graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and received an MBA with honors from Rice University.
