OneDrive for Business

Microsoft’s OneDrive for Business is now available for faculty and staff, providing the UT community yet another cloud-based storage service option that allows easy access to files from anywhere on any device. OneDrive users get 1TB of available storage space.

With OneDrive for Business, you can select which files you wish to sync. You can then access synced files on your device from anywhere, and unsynced files from anywhere with an Internet connection. (Synced files will automatically reconcile your changes with copies in cloud storage once your device has an Internet connection; unsynced copies won't.)

OneDrive for Business offers easy sharing capabilities, so you can share files with colleagues for a collaborative work experience. Because OneDrive for Business is web-driven, access is platform-independent; however, apps exist for it for Mac and Microsoft computers, as well as Android and Apple mobile devices.

When accessing OneDrive for Business through the online web access, you have the ability to edit Office files (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in-browser. Any changes you make will automatically be saved back to the cloud. 

One Drive for Business allows you to restore or download a previous version of a file, should you need to, from any point in time during the last 30 days.  Long-term backup is not a native feature.

One interesting feature for Windows users is the ability to move a standard Windows folder (such as My Documents) to OneDrive for Business folder so that everything you save in that folder will be synced with OneDrive for Business.
