Right after graduation from the UT Neurobiology PhD program, He Liu joined the Aldrich lab in September 2006 for his postdoctoral research. He used molecular biology approaches to screen random mutations in Ca²⁺ activated K⁺ channels, which cause spontaneous opening of these channels, alongside electrophysiology studies to further investigate the biophysical effects of these mutations in the channel molecule.
