Research Snapshot
For her Ph. D. research, Mari investigated the genetic basis of gravity perception and response in a single cell using microarray analysis and knockout studies. Her current research in the Roux lab is focused on the signaling pathway that links extracellular nucleotides to changes in plant groth and development.
History with the Roux lab
Much like the other senior members of the lab, Dr. Salmi joined the lab as an undergraduate. Coming from Louisiana to UT in 1994, Mari started with the Roux lab in the summer of 1996. She completed her undergraduate degree in 1998 and after a year doing benchwork outside the lab she returned to get her Ph.D. under Dr. Roux in 2005. After carrying out postdoctoral research at Instituto de Biotecnologia, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), and a two-year stint as Graduate Curriculum Coordinator and Instructor at the Morehouse School of Medicine, she re-joined our laboratory as a Research Engineering/ Scientist Associate I in the Spring of 2012.
