Urb Eco Welcome

We are a multidisciplinary research stream that is a part of the University of Texas Freshman Research Initiative (FRI). The focus of our research is mainly Waller Creek, an urban creek that runs through the UT campus and provides an ideal testing ground to study urban ecosystems and the overall impact of human activities on natural environments.

Our students will have the opportunity to utilize many techniques from a diverse range of disciplines, including chemistry, biology, molecular biology, microbiology, ecology, environmental science, geological science, and social science. Working alongside faculty, staff, and community stakeholders such as the City of Austin, the University of Texas, The Nature Conservancy, and the Waller Creek Conservancy, students will have the unique opportunity to participate in ongoing real-world research projects. Our ultimately aim is to restore Waller Creek while engaging in fun field work with a lively and active community.
