An extraordinarily important part of doing scientific research is sharing that research with others in the community. At almost all conferences and meetings, this is done in the form of talks and posters. You will be presenting a poster about your research at the January 2017 AAS meeting that you will put together with the help of your advisor. Here are some tips and tricks to get you started:
Posters:
- Poster making tutorial from UT Austin CNS
- Jason Wright, from Penn State, has had many students win poster competitions. Here is his secret formula for success.
- Comprehensive guide to making posters
- How to Make a Great Poster (written by Plant Biologists, but still applicable)
Talks:
- Preparing for your talk
- Create better diagrams in your talk so that it is easier to follow
- Making presentations accessible to all
- Don't make your slides unnecessarily wordy
- Especially for Mac users, know how you will connect your talk to the appropriate system so that it can be projected (you probably need a dongle)
