The public health presentation focuses on teaching the difference between bacteria and viruses, as well as basic first aid treatments for minor injuries. We want the kids to understand what is actually happening when they get sick and why the doctor needs to give them shots. We run through the first aid techniques so that should something minor like a cut or burn happen they don't accidentally worsen the injury, and the need to let an adult know is stressed in each situation. 

The dental presentation talks about how plaque is formed on teeth, the effects of fluoride, long term effects of bad oral care, and general information about orthodontic care. Teaching about plaque and fluoride gives a better understanding of what the dentist is doing when they clean the teeth and how the problems arise. Talking about the long term effects of bad oral care helps put in perspective why it is so important to keep up with your teeth.
