Inversions

Inversions (i)

The inversion operations projects each atom through the center of inversion, and out to the same distance on the opposite side.

Note - a molecule with an inversion center can only have ONE center of inversion.

Example [AuBr4]- This ion has a square-planar geometry about the central Au atom.

AuBr4 Inversion

Note - the position of the Au atom does not change and as for σ, i2 = E
