Research

Our lab is interested in understanding the neurogenetic basis of alcohol addiction. We use flies to study this because they share many similar genes and alcohol behaviors with humans. Flies show sensitivity to alcohol and can become intoxicated (video below) lose postural control and eventually sedate. Flies also show tolerance to alcohol, symptoms of withdrawal, and will seek alcohol despite negative consequence.

We are housed in the Department of Neuroscience and belong to the Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research. My laboratory is  located on the second floor of the Patterson building.
